Only you can Prevent Frozen Pipes!

Follow these tips. Disclaimer!! These tips may not work for all houses or scenarios. These are procedures for extremely low and prolonged temperatures and wouldn’t apply to your normal 30° night, followed by a day above freezing.

OUTSIDE-

Wrap well head well with insulation. Cover with well cover. To prevent drafts, cover with old blankets.

Remove any hoses connected to outside faucets and cover with appropriate covers.

Wrap any exposed piping on exterior mounted tankless water heaters.

INSIDE-

Let 2-3 inside faucets run a pencil lead sized stream, hot and cold water, especially if they are on an outside wall. Flowing the hot water keeps water flowing through your tank or tankless water heater.

Open cabinet doors under the sink if on an outside wall.

Put a small heater in the garage near your well equipment and water heater.

What to do if you lose power:

If it is expected to be a prolonged outage and you can’t supplement a heat source, drain the water from your pipes.

Turn the well breaker off.
Open all inside and outside faucets and let the water drain out.

Reverse the process when power comes back on, making sure to re-cover exterior faucets promptly.

Hope these tips help, be prepared and stay warm!
